1st XI Bowlers Find The Going Tough

Zac MILLAR 43*

Hythe First XI's perfect start to the season went up in smoke last Saturday when Hursley Park came to Jones Lane and amassed 255 from their 45 overs. Hythe in reply made 209 for 9. Zac Millar top scored with 43*, Tom Richards 40.

Hursley Park won the toss and elected to bat first on a decent looking batting track. Moore and Shaikh opened the bowling for Hythe but couldn't find the early breakthrough. By 10 overs Hursley had moved onto 34-0. and after 12 Matt Howe made a double change to try and find the breakthrough. Leading wicket taker Rob Saunders and Shaun Anderson came into the attack. Within 4 overs Hythe had got two wickets - Saunders bowled Theobald for 23 and then Luckman was run out for 10 by Dave Guymer. HP 53-2 off 16 overs.

This brought Mansbridge & Blomsfield together and neither wasted much time in putting bat to ball. In the 6 overs to drinks they added another 32 runs before Mansbridge 21 was caught & bowled by Saunders. Chris Wheeler became Saunders third victim in the 26th over when he was caught by Moore for 5 - HP 130-4 off 26. The crucial partnership for HP then came between Blomfield & Abdurahaman who added 67 in just 6 overs. Tom Richards smashed for 10 an over from his first 4 overs. He did however get the crucial breakthrough - Abdurahaman was finally caught for 32 (5x4's & 1x6) by Shaikh. Anderson who also went for 6 an over finally got a wicket when he had Worthy LBW for 2 and then Blomfield was finally our caught by Matt Howe off Richards for 73. (12x4's & 1x6) HP 197 for 7 off 36.

Hursley continued the free scoring to the end as Sharma & Predegast added another unbeaten 57 runs to take the score to 254 for 7 at the close.

Hythe needing 5.6 an over started well 48 for 0 off 16 - this despite Rob James going off after being hit between the grid.. Hursley then got the key wicket of inform Matt Young - Worthy caught & bowled for 16. Anderson was then caught by Blomfield off Bennie for 8 - Hythe 53-2 off 18. Howe and James took the score to 81 before Howe was bowled by Bennie for 16 Mills was then bowled by Worthy for a duck. Dave Guymer mad a valuable 33 which surprisingly only included one boundary. The returning James was then out judged LBW by Prendegast for 16 - Hythe flagging at 118 for 6.

With the game seemingly lost Zac Millar and Tom Richards added 48 in 7 overs before Richards was caught off Sharma for 40 (5x4's & 1x6) Shaikh and Moore came and went but Millar batted well to finish on 43 not out inc 7x4's - Hythe closing on 209-9.
