Members of the Independent Connacht Rugby Supporters Community ran a poll for player of the season. This being, “the player who in their eyes had consistently put in whole-hearted performances and contributed to the enjoyment of watching our team through thick and thin”.

The team and staff from the Branch were in attendance after the match for announcement of the winner of the inaugural ICRSC/O'Connell's award for Player of the Season. This writer can attest to the closeness of the contest with many players performance earning them the fans vote.
However by the beginning of the week it was apparent that barring a late surge from an outsider we would have our winner from a group of five players. By the finish it came down to two. Given honourable mention was Michael Swift but the winner by a short head, or should I say thick neck is Galway's own Johnny O'Connor. Johnny, in his first season after return from the Guinness Premiership, was presented with his trophy to commemorate this award. In addition his is the first name on the O'Connell's/ICSRC Perpetual Cup which will reside in O'Connell's for all to see.
Johnny also presented a delighted Wendy Hickey with her prize after picking her name from the draw for Connacht Supporters who had nominated the winning player - a Connacht home jersey signed by all the team. These three prizes were all sponsored by O'Connell's Bar.
Johnny was also the winner of €150 travel vouchers from Colm McDonagh Travel and the ICRSC thanks both for their generosity. We also express thanks to Pat, Johnny and all the staff of O'Connell's Bar for their efforts through the first season as Official ICRSC pub of choice.
Finally we wish to express gratitude to the team and management for their cooperation in making what was a fun evening for both players and fans.
