On the day that Albion were beaten by that other Devon rugby club the young Warriors were attempting to claim their second win in the Canterbury Shield.

Faced with a far stronger and more experienced side they battled well but at the end of the match they were behind and Roslyn Park went away with their first win of the season.

Within 5 minutes Park had slotted a penalty to go up by three. But our lads were soon back in the play and within 2 minutes some good strong play by captain Ross Allen put Wihan, playing at full back, clear with the ball. He passed the ball to birthday boy Max Venables to score in the corner.

Wihan had the kicking duties again but was unable to add any points.

The visitors came back again and put on two unconverted tries before the half hour was up

Mat Hooper playing at outside centre made a counter attack from the half way line and after the third phase of forward play Wihan and Ross combined to make a run for the line and it was Ross who placed the ball between the posts. Wihan was left to add the 2 points and bring the hosts to within a point of Park.

The visitors managed to put in a final un converted try just before half time to stretch the lead.

The only change at half time was Jamie Shone coming on for Tommy Newman. Wihan moved into the half back slot and Mark Lee dropped back from the wing to cover at full back.

Almost from the kick-off Park put the pressure on the hosts and notched up a converted try in the very first minute.

The Warriors only score in the half came in the 8th minute when Ross Allen broke through the Park defence from the 22 to score under the posts, which Wihan converted.

Parks strength came through and they ran in 3 more converted tries to bring the score to 19 - 46.

Max Venable was not the only player to have a birthday present, Cory Moore who joined Plymouth from Brixham RFC played a full 80 minutes with Matt Newman not available.
