Gavin Boak, former Albion player is new Head Coach

Coming through!
By Frank Stormont July 25 2008
Gavin Boak returns to Albion after a few years away. Gavin will bring his experience and enthusiasm to move the ladies team onwards and upwards.

Now PALRFC can start the real work with a new coach.

Gavin Boak, who has played for Albion in the past will be back at Brickfields this coming season as he has accepted the challenge of head coach for Albion Ladies.

Albion have been looking for a coach since the end of last season and had started pre season training with members of the club improving the fitness of the squad.

Boak, who will also be coaching the Marjons' ladies forwards is hoping to merge the two roles in an attempt to improve both teams.

Last season he was head of rugby at Ivybridge Community College  who have been kind enough to continue their support as he completes his level two coaching certificate.

After knee surgery he is looking to take a short break from playing and move into a more senior coaching role.

Rachel Tucker, captain of Albion Ladies, said that the club are absolutely delighted with the appointment. "Its nice to know that we have someone who is enthusiastic as we are to do well. We know we can do well and now we can release the potential with a coach that is really looking forward.

"I know he is going to be really positive. Onwards and upwards I think from here for all of us. We just need to get people back to training, July is hard as the players are all over the place. Come the start of August we should be able to get more of the squad back in training.

Boak, talking about his new role said "I am expecting a good season and looking forward to working with a variety of different girls. Its going to be challenging but at the same time it is going to be rewarding because we are not mucking around this season we are actually going to pull our fingers out and winning more games!

"We are going to bolster the squad, tightening the connections with Marjons and get the girls more involved. Possibly getting them to train with Albion as well.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to more wins.

I think Gavin Boak made a few appearences the West Country Warriors at Beacon Park. He was never a main line player due to his commitment & fitness levels!

I never once stated that i played for Albion, that information was gathered by frank. I did however play for the warriors at both at beacon and brick fields but that irrelevant. I did have lack of commitment due to injuries which also lead to my lack of fitness but what this has to do with my coaching. Just thought i would bring this to people’s attention and explain that I am not trying to be someone I am not.

Well said Gavin, no need to justify yourself regarding your playing days / fitness, what matters is your coaching ability. Welcome back to Albion, hope you have a great season with the girls.
