Trouble-free start to French GP
By BMW Sauber F1 Team June 20 2008
In the first practice session on Friday at Magny-Cours, both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers completed their scheduled preparation programmes without encountering any technical problems. Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld finished fifth and ninth respectively.

Session one of the French Grand Prix weekend was held in dry but relatively cool conditions, with temperatures reaching around 20°C. The BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers took to the track for three timed stints each, paying particular attention to the evaluation of the tyre compounds provided by Bridgestone. As the track surface at  the "Circuit de Nevers" features various types of tarmac, tyre performance will be a crucial factor over the course of the weekend.

It was a productive first session for both Robert and Nick. The Pole completed a total of 19 laps and clocked his personal best time of 1:16.377 minutes in the opening stages, on his fourth lap. He claimed fifth in the overall classification.

Nick was slightly busier than his team-mate. The German lapped the 4.411-kilometre circuit 21 times and secured ninth position on the time sheets with his 1:16.870-minute lap posted on his final flying lap.

In the second practice session, held from 14:00 to 15:30hrs CEST (13:00 to 14:30hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team will continue its preparations for the race and qualifying.
