Kubica in top six in first Monaco practice

Mixed emotions for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. In the first free practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix, Robert Kubica finished sixth. However, his team-mate Nick Heidfeld was stopped by a technical problem and was unable to complete his scheduled programme.
In session one of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Robert set competitive lap times in each of his three stints. On his 14th lap, the Pole clocked his personal best time of 1:16.834 minutes to finish sixth. During the course of the session, the Pole completed a total of 23 laps.

For Nick the session came to an early end. On his 13th lap, the German was stopped by a technical failure and had to park his BMW Sauber F1.08 next to the track. Consequently, the 1:18.283-minute lap he had set just before a red-flag period remained his personal best time, and he had to settle for finishing 14th.

The Friday morning session had to be temporarily red-flagged because of a loose drain cover at Sainte Dévote. The cover had to be repaired and consequently, it was 16 minutes before the action could continue.

Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen lapped the circuit in 1:15.948 minutes, thus proving to be the quickest.

In the second practice session, starting at 14:00hrs CEST (13:00hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers will continue their preparations for the remainder of the weekend.
