The 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix weekend was the most successful so far for
the BMW Sauber F1 Team. First, Robert Kubica claimed the first pole
position in the team's history, then the two BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers
finished the race in places three and four. This was sufficient to take
the lead in the constructors' championship.
"I was delighted for the team", says Peter Sauber. "I reached straight
for my mobile phone and sent a text to congratulate all those
involved", said the Swiss, reflecting on his immediate reactions after
the desert race. "Robert's fastest time in qualifying showed that our
car can even compete with Ferrari over one lap. That was impressive, as
Ferrari was the benchmark in Bahrain."
Sauber is most impressed by the consistency of the team: "The lead in
the constructors' championship underlines the fact that we were the
most consistent team at the first three races."
Sauber believes it will not be long before the team achieves its 2008
goal and secures its first victory: "At the moment it really looks as
though we are not far away from achieving this objective. But we must
be cautious. All the teams will arrive in Barcelona with the first
technical developments. This could change the hierarchy again. The
start of the European leg is always something of a second start to the
Formula One season."
