When the BMW Sauber F1.08 was publicly launched at Munich's "BMW Welt",
on 14th January, media representatives and the drivers could only guess
how fast the BMW Sauber F1 Team's challenger would really be.
With two rounds of the season contested, one thing is certain, the
F1.08 has successfully passed its baptism of fire. Nick Heidfeld
finished runner-up in the season opener in Australia - and in Malaysia,
Robert Kubica repeated this feat. At the end of the day, the BMW Sauber
F1 Team has already come very close to its stated goal for the 2008
season: to secure its maiden GP win.
"It used to be, If they're not in perfect form, we can beat all the
front runners. Should this happen, we will be there. Now we just have
to make the final step: to be able to make it to the very front without
having to benefit from other teams' weaknesses," says Theissen.
The German believes the BMW Sauber F1.08 will see the team celebrate
more successes this season. "We know that we have not yet exploited our
car's full potential. There is more to come," adds Theissen.
