Italian GP: Qualifying Session

For the 13th time this season, both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, will start a Grand Prix from top-ten grid positions. In qualifying for the Italian GP, Nick claimed fourth place, while Robert set the sixth-fastest time.

As usual in the 2007 season, the BMW Sauber F1 Team pairing easily advanced to the second knockout phase of qualifying. Robert and Nick both needed just one four-lap stint to do so. While Robert set his best time of 1:23.088 minutes on his first flying lap, finishing fifth, Nick's fastest lap was his second. The German crossed the line in 1:23.107 minutes to secure sixth position. McLaren's Fernando Alonso proved to be the quickest, with his 1:21.718-minute lap.

Eliminated: Takuma Sato, Ralf Schumacher, Vitantonio Liuzzi, David Coulthard, Adrian Sutil, Sakon Yamamoto.

Again, neither Robert nor Nick had troubles when it came to qualifying for the top-ten shootout, and did so with just one flying lap. Nick went out a minute earlier than his team-mate and lapped the "Autodromo Nazionale di Monza" in 1:22.466 minutes to finish sixth, with Robert proving to be fractions of a second faster. The Pole set a 1:22.400-minute lap and secured fifth position. The fastest lap time was once again set by Fernando Alonso, who crossed the line in 1:21.356 minutes.

Eliminated: Mark Webber, Rubens Barrichello, Alexander Wurz, Anthony Davidson, Giancarlo Fisichella, Sebastian Vettel.

In the top-ten shootout of the qualifying session, Nick defeated Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen to secure fourth position on the grid. Robert added to the team's great result by qualifying sixth. Both Nick and Robert completed two flying laps and both set their personal best times on their second assaults. Nick secured grid position with a 1:23.174-minute lap, with Robert crossing the line in 1:23.446 minutes. Alonso posted a 1:21.997-minute lap - and claimed pole position.

Result: 1st Fernando Alonso, 2nd Lewis Hamilton, 3rd Felipe Massa, 4th Nick Heidfeld, 5th Kimi Räikkönen, 6th Robert Kubica, 7th Heikki Kovalainen, 8th Nico Rosberg, 9th Jarno Trulli, 10th Jenson Button.
