With the arrival of Joleon Lescott for 5million pounds their had been speculation Weir would leave the blues to play first team football. There were seemingly offers from clubs like Leeds and West Brom but Weir felt his future was at Goodison Park.
Weir said, "Most players who have left Everton have regretted it and although I had other options, this club was always going to be the winner. The players are a great bunch of lads and the staff are great as well and that makes a big difference."
Weir arrived at Goodison Park all the way back in the 1998/99 season for 250k from Hearts, not just one of Everton's best pound for pound signings but probably one of the best pound for pound signings the Premiership has seen.
"Ever since the day I arrived at the club I've loved every minute of it."
In his time at Everton, Weir has played 250 games for the Toffees. This season though he will be expecting more competition for a starting place with Lescott eager to impress and with Jospeh Yobo expected to sign his new contract in the coming weeks.
