Charlton vs Everton Preview
By Rhys Lewis April 7 2006
Everton travel to the Valley this weekend looking for their second away win in the Premiership in 2006. With both sides pushing for a top half finish this result could have a crucial bearing on the final league positions.
Everton havn't won at the Valley since the first game of the 2001/2 season when a Duncan Ferguson penalty and David Weir winner saw the blues run out 2-1 winners, which incidently would be their only away win of that season until Walter Smith left the club in March 2002. This fixture last season was a miserable one for the Toffees, losing 2-0 to 2 late goals and the blues also saw Duncan Ferguson sent off in what was only their 4th defeat of the season to that point.

This time around Everton will be hoping that Charlton have one eye on their FA Cup quarter final replay on Wednesday. Charlton will be without their captain Luke Young who picked up an ankle injury in the 0-0 draw with West Ham last weekend. Everton are yet again without the suspended Andy van der Meyde who is serving the second of his three match suspension. Everton are likely to put Mikel Arteta back into the starting line up in place of Simon Davies after the Spaniard has finally recovered from his back injury that kept him out of the Merseyside derby. One other possible change might be the return of David Weir who was on the bench for the draw against Sunderland but after a shaky defensive display Moyes may feel the steadying influence of Weir will be needed against the inform Darren Bent and Everton old boy Marcus Bent.
