Everton Sign Westerveld on Emergency Loan
By Rhys Lewis February 23 2006
Everton are set to sign former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld on emergency loan from Portsmouth. Everton were granted permission to sign a keeper from the FA because they are missing 3 first team goalies for the trip to Newcastle.
After young keeper Iain Turner was sent off in the victory over Blackburn and with Nigel Martyn and Richard Wright injured, Everton were left with just John Ruddy available for selection against Newcastle. Westerveld currently plays for Portsmouth but is more famously known for playing for Liverpool and specifically for the fight with Francis Jeffers in Everton's 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in September 1999.

It is likely Westerveld will be thrown straight into the action with Ruddy being on the bench however he may only be in the team for one game with Iain Turner being available once again for the trip to West Ham a week later.
