The young winger finished off a fine team move on the hour to give the watching national manager Sven Goran Eriksson a taste of what he was about but it was unlucky on the Wanderers who dominated the first half and hit the woodwork through their on-loan midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata.
Spurs had an early opportunity in the third minute but winter transfer window signing Danny Murphy could not get enough accuracy on his curling free kick to trouble the Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.
A few minutes later the Trotters Japanese international star Nakata had the best chance of the opening period by far when his powerful effort from a Jared Borgetti knock down thundered off the left post of Spurs custodian Paul Robinson.
It was certainly a warning sign from the one time Asian Player of the Year who is looking to earn a permanent move to Bolton once his loan agreement from Fiorentina expires in the summer.
Bolton began to exert some pressure on their hosts midway through the half and experienced striker Borgetti couldn't quite make a clean connection with the ball after being put in a good position thanks to a header courtesy of fellow front man Kevin Davies.
The mixed range of passing by the Lancashire side was causing Spurs problems but to their credit the likes of Anthony Gardner and Michael Dawson defended well to combat anything which was thrown at them in the opening period.
Ivan Campo was looking to build on last week's impressive Wanderers performance against Charlton and his link up play with the likes of Nakata and Speed was once again encouraging in the opening three quarters of an hour at White Hart Lane.
Five minutes before the half time interval the Trotters nearly took the lead thanks to a fine team move involving Davies and wing back Ricardo Gardner but Stelios Giannakopoulos instinctive effort was cleared off the line by the impressive Tottenham centre half Michael Dawson.
The start of the second half saw a complete turn around in events as it was Spurs who began to put pressure on their visitors with Dawson's close range effort from a Michael Carrick corner being nudged off the line by Wanderers long serving defender Gardner.
Murphy and Lennon then fire inaccurate shots on goal which fail only just fail to trouble Bolton keeper Jaaskelainen but it was clear to see that the deadlock was about to be breached in one way or another.
Spurs seemed to do much better upon the introduction of their young forward Lee Barnard who was a half time replacement for club skipper and Ireland regular Robbie Keane whilst the Wanderers also picked up their game when Ricardo Vaz-Te came into the action at the expense of the unlucky Borgetti.
Teenager Lennon broke the deadlock and scored the eventual matchwinner on the hour mark when firing the ball neatly past Jaaskelainen after Carrick had held the ball up well down the right hand side following a give and go pass from the former Leeds United Academy graduate.
Jay-Jay Okocha's introduction into the action in place of the fading Nakata breathed new life into Bolton and they where unlucky not to have been awared a penalty in the 74th minute when Dawson appeared to bring down Stelios Giannakopoulos from behind when in a shooting position.
This blatent discrepancy was nearly forgotten about some two minutes later when Okocha's goalbound volley is plucked out of mid-air by the in form England goalkeeper Robinson who was, as always, proving to be a tough competitor to come up against.
Campo was to fire over the bar on two separate occasions in the final minutes of the game as Wanderers tried deep in vain to snatch a last gasp equaliser which would certainly have boosted their hopes of qualifying for a second European campaign.
However, despite an encouraging overall performance from the Wanderers their lack of cutting edge in front of goal has cost them a chance of gaining some points against one the Premiership's top teams, but that said all can be rectified in the final two games of the season - both of which are at home to Middlesbrough and the already relegated Birmingham City.
