Sunderland Res. 2 Bolton Wanderers Res 0.
By Mark Heys March 30 2006
Sunderland striker Kevin Smith bagged a brace at the Archibalds Stadium to condemn a young Bolton Wanderers reserves side to yet another defeat.
Smith struck twice in the first half to leave Wanderers second string still looking for their first win at this level in over two months and it could have been far worse but for goalkeeper Chris Howarth.

Irishman Daryl Murphy was thwarted on a number of occasions by the Bolton custodian Howarth who pulled off a string of good saves throughout the evening but he was powerless to prevent Smith's opener on 28 minutes.

Former Ipswich Town midfielder Tommy Miller fired in a shot from the edge of the area which was saved but Smith was the first to react to put his side into a deserved lead.

Smith then added a second and final goal just before the half time break when finishing off a fine team move which also involved midfielders Anthony Le Tallec and Jerome Watt.

Striker James Sinclair came close for the visiting Wanderers in his native North East but could not find a way past stand in goalkeeper Trevor Carson, who was called into action as a late replacement for Ben Alnwick in the warm up.
