West Brom Res. 1 Bolton Wanderers Res. 1
By Mark Heys March 6 2006
An early goal by Henrik Pedersen gave Bolton Wanderers a share of the points in their reserve fixture with West Bromwich Albion earlier this evening.
Pedersen struck after thirteen minutes at the Aggbrough Stadium in Kiddimister to cancel out an earlier effort from the Baggies young central defender Stuart Nicholson.

Nicholson has become a bit of a scoring weapon for the Albion second string in recent weeks and it showed as he was able to add to that tally just a few minutes into the game when directing a pass from Shana Haji past the Wanderers keeper Chris Howarth who recently completed a loan stint at Stockport County.

Albion could have so easily been two goals to the good on eleven minutes as Howarth dropped a powerfully driven free kick by Darren Carter only to be bailed out by the alert Trotters defenders in front of him.

Two minutes later Danish star Pedersen brought Bolton back into the contest when stealing in at the near post to head home a dangerous right winger corner by midfielder Oscar Perez.

Ricardo Vaz-Te then wasted a couple of chances to put the Lancashire side into the lead with England international keeper Chris Kirkland saving bravely at the feet of the Portuguese teenager on one such occasion.

At the other end Rob Elvins was wasteful in his finishing for the Albion as he failed to connect cleanly to a cross whipped in by Zoltan Gera with ten minutes of the first period remaining.

Jarostaw Fojut and Jared Borgetti had further chances for the Wanderers as the opening half came to an eventful close with the former being particularly indecisive in the area after being put through by Australian midfielder Scott Jamieson.

Baggies duo Carter and Elvins had key attempts foiled by Bolton keeper Howarth in the second half whilst goalscorer Nicholson had a second strike ruled out for offside late on in the game.

A bonus for Wanderers was that striker El-Hadji Diouf lasted the whole of the game following his comeback from a recent hernia operation and could be in contention for Saturday's home game against West Ham United.
