Bolton Wanderers Res. 0 Aston Villa Res. 4
By Mark Heys October 4 2005
The reserves indifferent start to the campaign continued last night as an experienced Bolton side was blown away by Aston Villa at the County Ground.
Villa have yet to lose a reserve game this season but Bolton by contrast are currently alongside local rivals Wigan Athletic at the bottom of the FA Premier Reserve League table having won just once in seven games.

First team squad members Ian Walker, Abdoulaye Faye, Fabrice Fernandes, Jared Borgetti and Ricardo Vaz-Te all lined up for the Wanderers but the Midlands side had the better application overall.

The first chance of the game came on seven minutes when Vaz-Te fired over the bar of Villa keeper Stuart Taylor following a good run down the left hand side. This missed chance came back to haunt the Lancashire side as Villa took the lead just a minute later.

Villa striker Shane Paul confidently fired home past Ian Walker from the penalty spot having earlier been hacked down in the area by Bolton's Welsh full back Rhys Powell.

Frenchman Bedi Buval then had a couple of chances to get the home side back on level terms but he was to find that the Villans goalkeeper Taylor wss on top of his game.

Former Arsenal custodian Taylor was called into action once again just before the break as he made an important double save to deny Abdoulaye Diagne-Faye and the experienced Jared Borgetti who tried the acrobatics.

On 54 minutes Villa went two goals up thanks to Paul's second goal of the game which came off the underside of the bar and trickled into the back of the Wanderers net.

With just over quarter of an hour to go Aston Vllla scored a third as former Burnley loan star Gary Cahill headed the ball past Walker after Bolton had failed to clear a corner.

Polish youth international Jarostaw Fojut nearly pulled the Trotters back into the contest but his powerful free kick from range was to rattle off the angle of post and crossbar.

Paul unselfishly teed up Sam Williams for the fourth goal as the game came to a close but Bolton will regret not making more of the first half chances which came their way.
