Bolton Wanderers reserves began the new season in the worst possible way as they were beaten 3-0 by last seasons reserve league champions Manchester United.

Bolton Wanderers reserves began the new season in the worst possible way as they were beaten 3-0 by last seasons reserve league champions Manchester United.
The young Trotters team put up a spirited fight at the County Ground but it wasn't
enough to outclass their arch rivals who included England internationals Alan Smith and Wes Brown in their line up.
Indeed it was Smith who put the Red Devils in front in the eighth minute when finishing off a fine United move to fire past Bolton's experienced goalkeeper Ian Walker.
Welsh full back Rhys Powell nearly pulled a equaliser out of the bag for the Wanderers, but his deflected shot was safely gathered by the rather thankful Reds goalkeeper Tom Heaton who had earlier scurried out of position.
Aussie midfielder Scott Jamieson and striker Ricardo Vaz-Te had earlier fired chances off-target for the Bolton team.
United winger Lee Martin scored during last season's reserve team meeting between the two clubs but he could not repeat the feat on this occasion as he fired wide of Walker's goal.
On 30 minutes the Reds finally managed to double their advantage when former Antwerp loan star Colin Heath fired in a low shot from distance past the despairing Walker.
One player to certainly look out for in the future is United's Italian forward Guiseppe Rossi, as his trickery proved to be a huge source of concern for the Trotters throughout the evening.
Just after the half time interval Walker prevented Bolton from going further behind as he managed to parry a close range shot from Rossi that seemed almost destined for the back of the net.
England youth international Robert Sissons then saw his goalbound effort cleared from off the line as Wanderers looked to pull something back from a game in which they had given maximum effort.
United killed the game off with a second goal from Heath via the underside of the crossbar after Wanderers keeper Walker had made yet another save to deny the impressive Rossi.
