Kawasaki Frontale 1 Bolton Wanderers 1
By Mark Heys July 28 2005
Substitute James Sinclair struck with just four minutes remaining to save Bolton from their first pre-season defeat against Kawasaki Frontale at the Todoroki Stadium.
Sinclair bundled the ball home in the 86th minute to earn Wanderers a 1-1 draw in their final game of the Far-Eastern tour after Korotsu had earlier given the Japanese side an 11th minute lead.

The game started off with the home side putting Bolton under immense pressure, as was evident when Ganaha's header just flashed passed the post of the Wanderers keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

This was just a taster of what was to come from Kawasaki, as on 11 minutes they took a deserved lead when Korotsu converted from just inside the area following an excellent through ball from Harada.

Jaaskelainen then parried a further effort from Ganaha as the J=league side looked to double their early advantage. Bolton where being pinned back, but to their credit managed to keep the goals against column down to one.

Wanderers skipper Jay-Jay Okocha saw his accurate 23rd minute free-kick bend around the post as the Trotters searched in vain for that elusive equaliser. The Kawasaki goalkeeper was well beaten by the effort but somehow the swerve went against Okocha at the final minute.

Kevin Nolan then had a half chance shortly before the break, but the midfielder could not execute a centre from the Bolton defender Radhi Jaidi as the home side had failed to clear their lines.

The half time team talk worked a treat as the Trotters came out with much more desire early in the second half. Kevin Davies saw his attempt cleared off the line and Jay-Jay Okocha saw a further attempt cannon back off the woodwork.

Kawasaki still posed a threat but the fact that Bolton had stepped up a gear meant that it was hard for the Japanese to repeat their early spell of pressure. That said, the Wanderers had a lucky escape when Minowa failed to get enough on his header following a free kick.

Teenager James Sinclair then missed a good chance to level the scores having come on as a sub for El-Hadji Diouf shortly before the hour. He could not get himself into position early enough to convert a cross from the impressive Okocha.

However this mattered not as the Newcastle-born youngster atoned for his earlier miss by firing in a late Wanderers equaliser on 86 minutes following good work from Kevin Nolan and Ricardo Gardner.

Bolton will now return to England to play some more friendly matches, starting this Saturday against Hull City at the Kingston Communications Stadium.
