Helguson and Braaten joined other experienced campaigners such as Abdoulaye Meite, Tamir Cohen, Grzegorz Rasiak and Mikel Alonso in the Wanderers second string line up.

Hosts Rovers where the first to create in the early stages, Keith Treacy and Eddie Nolan worked well down the right flank and Nolan's pinpoint cross just evaded the head of Josh O'Keefe.

Bolton's first chance resulted in a goal when Icelander Helguson converted from the penalty spot after Blackburn defender Dean Winnard had upended Mikel Alonso in the box.

Just before the quarter hour mark Blackburn themselves claimed for a penalty after Treacy went down in the area but the referee ignored the appeals and played on.

Wanderers had chances to increase their lead through Braaten's well saved effort and a Cohen free kick and on 25 minutes the second goal finally came.

Swiss international Blerim Dzemaili delivered a swerving free kick which home goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen did well to save but the resulting rebound was converted by Braaten for his second goal in as many games.

Veteran Ian Walker made a couple of saves to prevent Treacy from pulling a goal back for Blackburn shortly before the half time interval.

After the break Rovers came out with more urgency, O'Keefe saw his shot saved by Walker and fellow midfielder Alan Judge fired wide of the mark.

Striker Marcus Marshall continued the Blackburn pressure with a shot which Walker tipped wide and on 69 minutes they pulled a goal back when O'Keefe scored from a tight angle after his initial effort was saved.

O'Keefe tested Walker again whilst at the other end Helguson had a late effort saved by Nielsen and Wanderers held on to claim the three points.
