The Finnish international reacted superbly to tip over an injury time header from Cottagers substitute Tomasz Radzinski to help the Wanderers record a maximum points total for the second weekend in succession.
Fulham started the game very well and didn't look like a side that hadn't gained a win on their travels since they came up against Newcastle United at the end of September.
Just before the quarter hour mark had passed the visitors midfielder Simon Davies delivered a superbly accurate free kick into the danger area but the giant figure of Papa Bouba Diop could only head straight into the waiting arms of Wanderers keeper Jaaskelainen.
Bolton, who where missing Ivan Campo, Kevin Davies and Abdoulaye Faye from their starting line up, went ahead in the 23rd minute through a calmy taken penalty by 37-year old Gary Speed after Fulham captain Michael Brown was adjudged to have fouled Trotters forward Nicolas Anelka.
Four minutes later the away side went on the attack when striker Heidar Helguson was put in a one on one situation with his opposing goalkeeper Jaaskelainen. The former Watford player lost the footrace and proceeded to catch the Finland star with his boot thus earning the games second yellow card.
The Wanderers played a neat passing game at times and Iran midfielder Andranik Teimourian was a major reason behind the Bolton creativity. The World Cup star ran himself into the ground whilst on the pitch and is sure to be a big part in Sam Allardyce's plans for the rest of the campaign.
As the first half drew to a close it looked as if the hosts would go on to win the game quite comfortably as they had the bulk of the possession and where asking questions of Fulham.
Firstly, ten minutes before the interval defender Abdoulaye Meite hooked the ball over the crossbar after his central defensive partner Tal Ben-Haim had nodded the ball into his path.
The Ivorian has been extremely impressive at the heart of the Wanderers defence in recent weeks and a goal against the Cottagers would have been the perfect reward for the ex-Marseille stopper.
Then, five minutes later came one of the best moves of the game when Stelios Giannakopoulos and Nicolas Anelka combined well down the right. Anelka made his way into the Fulham area before teeing the ball back to Andranik who fired a thunderbolt right at visiting keeper Jan Lastuvka.
As the second half commenced Bolton continued to look dangerous and it came as no surprise when they added to their goals tally for the afternoon on 51 minutes through skipper Kevin Nolan. Nicky Hunt's curling right wing cross was headed onto the post by Giannakopoulos and Nolan reacted the quickest to steer the ball past Lastuvka.
Fulham where by no means out of the equation though and continued to press and probe in search of getting back into the game. Their persistence finally paid off on 66 minutes when a Simon Davies corner was headed past Jaaskelainen by England cap Zat Knight.
Knight was moving with his back to goal but still managed to get enough power and accuracy on the header to give the travelling London contingent something to shout about.
Success in the final half was less fluent for Bolton than it had been and but for a couple of ambitious long range attempts from Anelka they seemed content to protect their lead.
New signing David Thompson was introduced by the home side with just over twenty minutes to play and his first piece of the action was to be cautioned by referee Howard Webb after lunging at Fulham's Davies
The game threatened to turn sour in the final quarter when Fulham's Franck Queudrue lay injured in a heap in his opposing half. Stelios Giannakopoulos generously kicked the ball out of play so that the ex-Boro man could receive treatment but the French defender then incensed the Bolton crowd by getting up undazed as soon as he realised the ball was out of play and was then continiously barracked for the rest of the game.
Radzinski thought he had pulled Fulham level in the game late on when flinging himself at a deep and hopeful right wing cross but Jaaskelainen produced a quality save to keep Bolton on course for the three points
The Trotters now face the prospect of two home games in the FA Cup, the first being a replay against Arsenal with a potential fifth round tie against Blackburn Rovers to follow
