Kevin Davies, Idan Tal and a stunning double from Iran youngster Andranik Teimourian ensured that the Wanderers bounced back from their recent defeat at Liverpool in the best possible style..
Davies put Bolton ahead as early as the eighth minute when volleying home Stelios Giannakopoulos chipped cross past Rovers young goalkeeper Benjamin Smith.
Wanderers keeper Ian Walker had to be alert at the other end to keep out a headed effort from Doncaster's in form striker Paul Heffernan. The former England custodian was at full stretch to deny the Irishman an almost certain equalising goal.
Teimourian seemed hungry to impress for Bolton and would have opened his account in the 21st minute but for some excellent goalkeeping by Smith. However moments later the World Cup star made no mistake when rifling home an excellent shot from thew edge of the box after some good hold up play by fellow goalscorer Davies.
Doncaster fielded an attacking line up with the likes of Mark McCammon, Paul Heffernan, Jonathan Forte and James Coppinger all capable of scoring goals but they where unable to put any real pressure on the visiting goalkeeper Walker.
Wanderers third goal of the game came 11 minutes before the break thanks to former Everton man Idan Tal. The Israeli saw his initial effort blocked by Smith but the experienced campaigner was on hand to smash in the rebound for his first goal in Bolton colours
This goal seemed to perk Doncaster up but their only real effort of note came the way of local born Mark Wilson who recently made a return to English football following a spell in the United States. The one time Manchester United youth could only fire high and wide into the stand behind the goal much to the relief of Walker.
Bolton put the finishing touches to the game in the 50th minute when Teimourian recorded his second of the contest. Kevin Davies ball caused problems amongst the Doncaster defenders and Teimourian took full advantage to fire past an onrushing Smith.
Davies himself could have recorded a second of the afternoon but for some resolute Doncaster defending whilst Heffernan and experienced defender Graeme Lee when mightily close to netting a consolation goal for the hosts.
Former Hartlepool United stopper Lee headed into the side netting whilst Heffernan's shot was blocked thanks to some astute defending by Bolton's Abdoulaye Faye.
Wanderers can be happy at having recorded a comfortable victory against a side who on their day could have so easily posed a problem, but the focus now returns to the Premiership game against Manchester City next weekend.
