It has been another frustrating summer on the transfer front for the Trotters manager and he feels that the only way forward for the Wanderers would be to bring more youth academy graduates through the system.
"We have to start developing our own players." said Allardyce
"We are trying to do as much as we can as quickly as we can and we have done well with the likes of Nicky Hunt, Kevin Nolan, Joey O'Brien and Ricardo Vaz Te. But we are still behind because we have had to focus on the first team for so long so we must start pursuing this avenue more vigorously than we ever have before."
Many of the young players at Bolton where involved in the pre-season warm up matches and Nathan Wolfe and Johann Smith even managed to get their first full starts for the club during last weekend's defeat at home to AZ Alkmaar.
Polish trio Blazej Augustyn, Przemyslaw Kazimierczak and Jarostaw Fojut all recently signed professional forms with the club. In the case of Fojut he has already made his debut for the club during last seasons FA Cup win over Premiership new boys Watford.
