Glasgow Rangers 1 Bolton Wanderers 1
By Mark Heys July 25 2006
Kevin Davies scored early in the second half to earn Bolton Wanderers a creditable draw in their friendly match with Glasgow Rangers earlier today
The match was played behind closed doors at the Murray Park training complex in Scotland as Greater Manchester Police could not guarantee enough manpower for the original tie which was due to take place at the Reebok Stadium this evening.

Rangers took the lead as early as the eighth minute when former Wanderers target Dado Prso struck from close range after being put through by his fellow strike partner Nacho Novo.

Abdoulaye Faye then spared Bolton's blushes as he cleared a Novo shot off the line at the last moment after the Spaniard had taken the ball around goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

On 30 minutes Ricardo Vaz-Te set up the visitors first real chance of the game but captain Kevin Nolan could only direct the resulting header into the arms of the Gers custodian Lionel Letizi, a recent capture from French club Paris Saint Germain.

The Wanderers forced themselves back into the game seven minutes after the half time interval when Kevin Davies rose well to nod home a cross from fellow forward El-Hadji Diouf.

Two trialists took part in the game for Bolton, one played just half an hour before being replaced by Gary Speed and the other came on as a second half substitute for Ricardo Vaz-Te.

With twenty minutes remaining Sam Allardyce's side could have got their noses in front but subsitute Speed saw his header from a Diouf cross come back off the woodwork.

Nolan then saw his 77th minute effort saved well by Rangers substitute goalkeeper Allan McGregor as the Trotters looked to force a late and somewhat deserved winning goal.

Bolton will now take to the road on Saturday afternoon to take on Derby County at Pride Park (Kick Off 3pm)
