FA Cup - City to face NF
By Chris Thompson November 16 2005
Chester learned their fate in the FA Cup second round after Monday evening's replay.
Nottingham Forest defeated their non-league counterparts 2-0 at Weymouth's Wessex Stadium, to start the build up to the tie of the round against Chester City in December.

Weymouth included former City captain Andy Harris, aswell as former loanee Lee Elam in their starting XI, after Harris' late equaliser in the original tie in Nottingham bought the tie back to Weymouth, whetting the appetite for a potential upset.

However, two goals in 6 second-half minutes by the returning Gareth Taylor from suspension, was more than enough to dump Weymouth out of the illustrious competition at the second time of asking.

And the City of Chester can now look forward to their spot in the limelight, as they fancy their chances against a Forest side who are struggling to find their feet in League 1.

Despite inconsistent results, they lie 9th in the table, 21 places above City who are 6th in League 2.

Despite some indifferent displays though against Bury and Shrewsbury, where Chester picked up just 1 point, Curle's assistant John Gannon is looking positively forward to the tie.

"Forest are full of history and it's an opportunity for us to upset them. It should be an awkward tie for them and the ground should be close to capacity.

"Gary Megson played at Manchester City with Keith and it's possibly the tie of the round. They're probably the biggest team in the bottom two divisions but it'll be a difficult game for them."

Manager Keith Curle celebrated his 42nd birthday with the news that Chester will play Forest in the FA Cup, but there is no such thing here as a midlife crisis, as Chester's form continues to sparkle against early expectations.

“I’ve got no doubt that everyone connected with Chester was rooting for Nottingham Forest to win last night’s match.

“The second round tie is a fantastic opportunity for the football club because we’ll be hosting the former European Cup winners. Nottingham Forest is still a massive football club.

Underpressure Forest manager, Gary Megson was simply glad to have overcome an enthusiastic and hardworking Weymouth outfit to get this far.

He said: "Everybody likes an underdog, and we were aware that the consequences of losing would have had a far-reaching effect on our league efforts."
