Scotland get 3 points from tougher opponents

England in action
By LA White September 7 2005
David Beckham. One of the worlds most famous players. Wayne Rooney. One of the worlds brightest young talents. Michael Owen. One of footballs most consistent strikers. Ashley Cole. In the worlds top 3 in his position. Ugly Ferdinand. Worth 120K a week apparently.
Frank Lampost, “Stevie Boy” Gerard, Jamie Carragher. Three of the Champions Leagues most influential players last year. Joe Cole, a revelation in the Premiership the 2nd half of last season. Shawn Wright-Philips, this summers most expensive transfer.

You get the point.

Tony Capaldi. Plays for Plymouth, whose great start to the season has seen them fire their boss already.

Stephan Craigen. Plays for Motherwell.

Warren Feeney. Luton Town, new boys in the Championship.

James Quinn. Without a club currently.

Keith Gillespie. In the twilight of his career. Now at Sheffield United, where good players go to die.

The difference? Worlds apart aren’t they? Especially when you look at commitment, passion and desire to represent their country. They sashey into town expecting "lesser" teams to bend over and say, "Please sir". It may work on the Costa Del Sol lads, but not in World Cup Football.

I may have made fun of the Scots earlier today for their win against Norway, but that was all in fun. Whereas all my scorn is well placed when I direct it at the spineless and inept performances of the England team these past few weeks. 3 points from a possible 9. As opposed to Scotland’s 7 from 9.

Sobering huh?
