Came on trial in the Summer of 2004 and impressed during the Villa and Man United freindlies.

Despite having a strong midfield we gave him a contract and then waited for him to re-produce his pre-season form. We waited, and waited - and then gave up towards the end of the season.

He struggled with injuries throughout the season and never got the chance he deserved to stake a claim for a regular starting place.

His best performance of the season came in the 3-2 win against Swindon Town.  A game which turned out to be a highlight of the season as Broad, Wrack and Merson tortured the Swindon midfield with their cunning movement and intricate forward play.

His season went down hill after Christmas as injuries hampered his progress and saw him out of the first team picture.

Broad remains the rookie midfielder having only started 15 competitive games in his 5 years as a "pro".  His new 2 year deal reflects the potential that the staff have in him.

Will 05-06 be the year when he shows us why he is worth the wait... If it is, Joe Broad could well become a Martin O'Connor type midfielder for the Saddlers. A box to box battler who can dictate play.

Joe Broad is a slick midfielder with bags of energy and an eye for the killer ball. Question marks continue to hang over his fitness and
competitive edge
