The Saddlers wasted no time in snapping up talented defender Anthony Gerrard from Premiership Everton. The Saddlers have done well to sign such a talented defender without having to pay a transfer fee.

Nobody had heard of Anthony Gerrard prior to his arrival. 8 games later and he was the talk of the town.  He did enough during his 8 game loan spell to win this sites young player of the season award. Quite an achievement for someone who only arrived in March. 

Predominantly used as a Center Half, Gerrard proved himself to be a real class act. More of the same next season and we'll be more than pleased with what might prove to be the signing of the season.

 

Fast, good in the air, strong in the tackle, a good reader of the game and a leader of men. You wouldn't think he's the youngest defender on the pitch when you watch him play. Possibly the best "natural defender" we've had since Paul Ritchie left the Club.
