..Name -
Charlie Ntamark
Position - Utility
Appearances - 336

Period - August 1990 - July 1997
Although Charlie Ntamark was
born in London, he had fammily ties in Africa, played for Cameroon's
Canon Waounde and won 31 caps as an international. He narrowly missed out
on the 1990 World Cup through injury, in what was most disappointing
moment of his career.
The arrival of Charlie is
well known story. We ended up signing him following a failed attempt to
sign World Cup star Roger Milla who was having treatment in England
following the Italia 90 tournament. Milla turned the Saddlers down, but recommended
his international team mate - Ntamark who had been playing for Non-League
Boreham Wood after moving back to England.
Kenny Hibbitt gave him a
contact, and in his first season with the Saddlers he went on to win the
Player of the Season award. He was being used in Central Midfield, and was
able to do things with the ball which left his team mates, the opposition
and the crowd in awe.
Charlie is one of the most consistent
players to ever wear a Walsall shirt. He gave 110% in every
game, rarely got suspended, and never had any long spells out
injured.
Both Hibbitt and Nicholl
were keen admirers of his talents, most notably because of the fact he
could be used as a full back or wide midfielder. No matter where he
was played, his best position was always in the middle of the park where
his creative talents and ability on the ball could be utilised for the
benefit of the team.
He was a member of the 94-95
promotion squad, and was a key member of the team that consolidated its
second division status. In 1997 he was deemed surplus to
requirements and went on to have spells with Hednesford
Town and Bromsgrove Rovers of the Conference. He never really managed to
settle at either club and decided to make a new future for himself in the
legal profession.
Charlie is still seen in and
around the Bescot Stadium, and is always cheered by fans when they notice
him.
Cameroon International
Charlie Ntamark will always be remembered for his silky skills and
versatility. He was the first of Paul Taylor's continental all stars, made
Geoff Allman's 100 greatest Saddlers book, and was elected to
TheSaddlersFC's legends XI squad in July 2003.
