Steve Corica

.

Name - Steve Corica
Position - Midfielder / Forward
Appearances - Still with the club
Goals - Still with the club
Period - Feb 2002 - Present

Steve Corica joined the Saddlers from J-League outfit Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The Saddlers were crying out for a creative player who could unlock opposing defences, and Steve Corica was the answer to their prayers.

His partnership with Jorge Leitao helped guide to the Saddlers to safety. His form since that first season has been indifferent. 02/03 saw him struggling to hold down a regular first team place, while 03/04 started brightly, but was interrupted by injury.

The fact he can play anywhere across the midfield or up front has hindered his progress. He has never been able to settle in one position, and just what his best position is remains to be seen.

Ollerenshaw

.

Name - Scott Ollerenshaw
Position - Forward / Winger
Appearances - 20
Goals - 4
Period - 1992/93

Scott Ollerenshaw was a pacey, red haired Australian International who had a short spell with the Saddlers in the early 1990s. He was mainly used as a winger and struggled to hold down a regular first team place . He managed 20 appearances and 4 goals during his stay, not bad for a newcomer in the English game.

92/93 saw us make the Play-Offs only to lose to Crewe. It had been a successful year for us, a big improvement on the seasons before.

Ollerenshaw left the Saddlers and moved back to Australia. He soon found a club and signed for the Leichhardt Tigers. He only managed 5 appearances for them and moved to Malaysian club - Sabah Rhinos. Sabah are one of Malaysia's biggest clubs, and Ollerenshaw went on to become a big hit with the Malaysian public.

Sabah fan Mon, from SabahRhinos.com told us "Scott Ollerenshaw is the greatest goalscoring machine the Malaysia League has ever seen. In fact, Scott is the most successful import in Malaysia. He had won the golden boot several times"

He left Sabah in 1998 and went on to have short spells with Negri Sembilan (Malaysia), Northern Sprit and Ryde City (both in Australia), before finnally ending his career in 1999 because of persisting ankle and hip injuries.

Since quitting the game Scott has took his coaching badges and is looking to set up the Sabah KK Indoor Sports Centre . Ollerenshaw has purchased a large warehouse and wants to turn it in to an indoor sports stadium.

Andy Petterson

.

Name - Andy Petterson
Position - Goalkeeper
Appearances - Still with the club
Goals - Still with the club
Period - Jan 2004 - Present

Andy Petterson is a well traveled goalkeeper who has had his fair share of clubs. He joined The Saddlers in January 2004 to fill in for Walsall's two absent goalkeepers. He had a short spell in the first team which included a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Coventry, a 3-2 defeat at Stoke and a 1-1 draw against Crewe.

He came in for a lot of criticism while with the club. The 6-1defeat was a poor defensive performance, but 2 of the goals at Stoke, and the equaliser that Crewe scored were all down to Petterson.

Andy came to England in 1988 and has since played for... .. Luton, Swindon, Ipswich, Charlton, Bradford, Plymouth, Colchester, Portsmouth, Wolves, Torquay, West Brom, Brighton, Bournemouth, Rushden and Southend.

David Zdrilic

....

Name - David Zdrilic
Position - Striker
Appearances - 12 (18)
Goals - 5
Period - Jun 2002-August 2003

David Zdrilic (Driller) arrived at the club with a big reputation. His 16 goals in 19 international starts was an impressive record (although a vast majority of them all came in one game). He was recommended to the club by fellow Aussie international Steve Corica. He had spent the previous season with Unterhaching of the German Second Division, failing to win a regular spot in their first team.

Injury deprived us of his services within the opening weeks of the season, but a series of sub appearances in late August eased him into the first team frame. September 14th saw him make his full debut in the 1-0 defeat Bradford. His performance was somewhat anonymous.

His second performance was far from anonymous. He scored two outstanding goals in the 4-3 defeat against Rotherham, winning the TSFC Man of the Match Award.

The following game against Milwall saw him on the score sheet again, as the Saddlers picked up all 3 points at the New Den. Driller had made a favorable impression with everyone at the club.

The main problem Driller was going to face was the Brazilian Junior. The maverick centre forward was a phenomenal talent pushing hard for a first team place. He was scoring freely in the reserves and eventually dislodged Driller for the Preston game. The rest they say is history. Junior became an instant hit with a 30 yard wonder goal and a master class in attacking play.

Leitao and Junior became the first choice partnership. He became a bit part player for the rest of the season, only managing two more goals.

The jury is still out as to whether he would have been a success. Injuries and the success of Junior limited his chances. Driller signed for Aberdeen after leaving Walsall and has been in and out of the Dons first team all season.
