The points were evenly shared in a
battle royale at Bescot today. Saddlers dominated the first half
with attractive attacking football. Unfortunately, as of late, they
were guilty of lacking the cutting edge up front. Many half chances
were created but no-one was able to capitalise, most notably Leitao
who crumpled to the floor on too many occasions.
Cardiff looked a physically strong side who were also comfortable on
the ball and in Earnshaw they possessed a striker who always looked
sharp and lively. The best chances for Walsall included an audacious
chip from Merson that sailed over the bar and after some magical
skills from Corica, Leitao was unfortunate not to connect with the
following cross. At the opposite end of the field on the stroke of
half time Earnshaw easily peeled off Ritchie who received the ball
at his feet on the edge of the six yard box and only an excellent
block on the goal line by Aranalde kept the scores level.
Shortly after the restart a Cardiff defender inexplicably handled
the ball whilst attempting a headed clearance resulting in the
Saddlers first penalty of the season. Last years penalty king
Aranalde then hammered the spot kick down the centre which Alexander
superbly pushed onto the bar. As the ball came back down to earth
Leitao was on the spot to bravely put it into the back of the net.
After the goal the Saddlers midfield totally disintegrated amidst
some heavy handed tactics from the Bluebirds. Firstly, Leitao was
penalised for holding Ginger kids shirt. Ginger kid then went in for
afters and attacked Leitao. Looking for a fight, Alexander then
raced out of his area to continue with the attack on Leitao. And all
this due to a shirt tug?
A few moments later Ritchie appeared to lose the plot and attempted
a "leg break" on a City player. In the melee that followed
Lee and Aranalde decided to kick lumps off each other and were both
duly dismissed.
By now, Cardiff were well in control as they attacked the Walsall
goal relentlessly. Saddlers hardly touched the ball as they appeared
to totally lose control of the match they previously bossed. The
whole of the second half was played out on the Saddlers 18 yard line
with Kavanagh creating hordes of chances giving the excellent Walker
a busy afternoon.
The inevitable finally happened 15 seconds from time when Whalley
drilled a low shot into the bottom corner of Walkers goal.
Walsall only had themselves to blame. They totally lost control of
the midfield and were guilty of allowing Cardiff all the space they
wanted to attack. More should be expected from the senior pro's in
the Saddlers ranks. |

4two - What a disappointment. How we allowed
them in with 15 seconds or so left is disgraceful. We could have
beaten Stoke if we took our chances, should have got a point at Crewe,
and beaten Cardiff. Things gotta improve. |
Cannock - Immediately after we scored, we
disintegrated in midfield with Cardiff well on top. This just
continued after the sendings off. |
7inchyouknowwho - . Please oh please give
Fryatt a chance if we dont get a striker soon coz Birch wants shooting |
Dave Hawkes - Last week we failed to take the
points and this week we through them away |

Jorge climbed above the keeper
to stick away the rebound from Zigor's missed pen. Cardiff got the
equaliser after Whalley's left foot from inside the area crept past
Jim.

Another good turn out. Loads of
Cardiff fans. The cheaper prices obviously paying off.

Inconsistent, incompetent, couldn't
handle the game, out of touch. All can be used to describe
Joslin. Eyebrows were raised by both sets of fans at times.
The sending offs were stupid, if the Ref could control the game they
wouldn't have happened.
