David (Mini) Preece - What he lacked in stature, he more than made up in ability!Made well over 100 appearances for Walsall, including that League Cup run, before being sold to Luton for ,000. Made 356 appearances for them, achieving representative honours fro England, although not quite a full cap. Hard working, tough tackler, good passer

Ken Hodgkisson - One of the stalwarts of the 1960s promotion winning sides. As with all good central midfielders, had the right blend of the work ethic, passing range and the ability to get his foot in. Complimented "Chopper" Gutteridge, in many ways

Martin O'Connor - Captained the club during two separate spells. Skipperd Chris Nicholls side to promotion in 94/95, then came back for a second spell between 2002-2003 where he helped the Saddlers secure their First Division status. A grafter, a leader, a favourite with the fans.

Alex Taylor - Brought with Ramsden's money to help keep us up following the promotion under Coakley. Many Walsall fans believe he might have done it, if he hadn't have picked up a bad injury. Hard working, good passer, eye for goal.

Charlie Ntamark - Cameroon International Charlie Ntamark will always be remembered for his silky skills and versatility. He was the first of Paul Taylor's continental all stars, and won the player of the season trophy in 1990/1991.(Also Right Midfield, Defence)

Jeff Peron - Spent one season at Walsall, where he won player of the season and gave some of the best performances ever seen in a Saddlers shirt. In the opinion of many (including the author!), one of the most skilful players to wear the shirt. (Right and Left Midfield)

Colin Taylor - Renowned for a powerful shot, had three different spells with Walsall between 1958 and 1973. One of only three players to have made over 500 appearances, with almost 200 goals, an incredible record for a winger. (Also Left Midfield)

Miah Dennehy - A traditional right winger. An Irish International who played at Fellows Park for three seasons. Tricky and pacy, he had a good eye for goal. (Right Midfielder)

Johnny Hancocks - Represented Walsall 39 times between 1938-46 (War years). Like Colin Taylor, was left footed, with a ferocious shot. Went on to represent England when he played for Wolves, where he made 378 appearances, with 168 goals (Left Midfield)

Alan Buckley - Walsall's record signing (when arriving the second time from Blues), an exciting player who played for and managed the club for 12 years from 1973 to 1985, and scored 183 league goals in 465 appearances for his three clubs. Scored 34 in a season for us in 75/76.

Gilbert Alsop - A true Walsall legend, had two spells with us between 1931-35 and 1947, 169 goals in 222 games. Alsop is also famous for his goal in the 1933 tie with Arsenal.

Tony Richards - Voted Walsall's greatest ever player after scoring 198 goals in 358 games between 1954-1963. His partnership with the free scoring left winger, Colin Taylor, was the stuff of legends.

David Kelly - Spent Seven years at the club (1983-1988), but it was in 1986 when he made his mark, showing his goal scoring talents getting 26 goals. Sold for a record £0.6m to West Ham, Kelly went on to play in the World Cup for Ireland

Jorge Leitao – The club centre forward for the most successful period in its history. Born in Portugal, took his degree before turning professional and coming to Walsall for a fee of £150,000. A tireless worker up front and chaser of lost causes. 37 goals in 107 full League games, with a further 7 in 17 Cup games
