Worthing 24 Rugby Lions 44

WINGER Michael Rust ran in a second-half hat-trick of tries as Lions cut loose on the south coast to register their first win in National Division Three South. Worthing showed their muscle in the set pieces, but Lions had all the answers out-side where their extra pace and support play were decisive in an impressive display.

Back row Stuart Riding claimed Rugby's first two tries, on either side of a converted Charlie McGowan try for the hosts, with Matt Goode converting the second and also kicking a penalty for a 15-7 lead after 30 minutes.

Centre Phil Reed finished off a sparkling run by mid-field partner Craig Moir with Goode converting for 22-7 at the interval, and although Ben Coulson pulled one back for Worthing, Rust's speed down the left touchline saw him put Lions in charge, Goode converting one of the three tries, before scrum-half Toby Handley finished off a dazzling move with the team's seventh try.
