Mark Wright has been quickly forgiven after his bust up with the Chairman which later led to his resignation a day before Chester began life as a League 2 outfit, following a fantastic year in which the Ex-England defender led the club out of the Conference after a 4 year absence from football’s 4th tier.
It has yet be confirmed that he will be manager, which is worth noting, but in reply to a question from yesterday’s media, in which he was asked of the possibility of a return to management for Mark Wright at the club, said Stephen Vaughan, ‘You’re not to far off the mark.’
The names that rival him to the post include Paul Ince, Bobby Gould, Gary Peters, Graham Barrow, Jan Molby, and caretaker boss, David Bell, who led the team to victory in his first game in charge against Boston on Saturday, as well as an unnamed household gaffer in League 1. But having so convincingly taken the reigns at the club during his three years with Chester, in which he took City-at that time, recently owned by American Terry Smith-away from the bottom of the conference, and within 3 seasons to the top of the conference and into the league, Mark Wright stands in a very good position.
It is well-known that the chairman and Wright are good friends, and have met several times since their public bust-up in August. The Chester Evening Leader believes that Mark Wright has applied, and I would probably expect an announcement on Mark Wright’s position over the next few days, having Vaughan admitted that speculation linking the former centre-half with a return is ‘not to far off the mark.’
