Victory at last !
By Claret & Amber August 21 2004
Scott McDonald was given a rare start at Dens Park and rewarded gaffer Terry Butcher with two goals as Motherwell got their first win of the new season.
Skippy who was celebrating his 21st birthday opened the scoring after David Clarkson blew a chance to put ' Well in front. Clarky, the club's top scorer last season missed a penalty early on. McDonald's opener came after 18 minutes, the little striker had time to fire past Soutar in the Dundee goal from the edge of the penalty area. Motherwell had most of the possession and chances and added a second on the hour mark. McDonald done well to open up the Dundee defence. Former Portsmouth forward Steve Lovell got Dundee back in the game after striking past Marshall but it was too late for the home side to complete the comeback.

Butcher told BBC Sport " I'm delighted to get our first win of the season, We had to hold on a bit in the final stages and Dundee had chances to get level and even win the game "
