Darlington 1 – 3 Reserves
By Nick Raynor March 9 2005
Doncaster Reserves triumphed over Darlington with Leo Fortune-West playing for the first time since he was injured many months ago.

Doncaster were lucky on 5 minutes when Darlington tried to lob Cockerham but it fell wide.

Rovers did take the lead just 10 minutes into the game when McSporran swung a free-kick to the far post. It found Albrighton who headed across goal where Lewis Guy stabbed it home.

Darlington tried to hit back but Rovers counter attacked and won a corner which Albrighton headed into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Darlington were by no means out of the game yet and Wainwright took it round 1 defender and the keeper, only to find Albrighton in his way who was having a great start to the game. Wainwright claimed for a penalty but the referee was having none of it.

Guy picked up his second after a through ball from McSporran caused 2 Darlington defenders to collide leaving Guy clear to run through and score his second.

Darlington grabbed a goal back with a screamer from Valentine. Cockerham punched the ball out which fell to Valentine who somehow managed to squeeze in through the mounds of bodies to get Darlington back in the game.

Darlington came out in the second half looking for an equaliser, Wainwright and Gilroy both going close.

Guy then repaid the earlier favour by lobbing a ball through to McSporran who proceeded to give Rovers a 2 goal cushion.

Both teams could only manage long rang shots then until the last minute where Sodje was one-n-one with Cockerham but the ‘keeper made a good save.

FINAL SCORE: 1-3
