IPC World's 2006 Day 1

IPC World Swimming Championships 2006, Durban, South Africa - Day 1 02/12/06

The IPC World Swimming Championships have begun in Durban, South Africa with Britain picking up 5 Golds 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals.

 

Dragons DSC Coach David Roberts picked up a gold as part of the GB 34 point 4x100m Freestyle Relay Team. The team consisting of David, Matt Walker, Graham Edmonds and Rob Welbourn fought off Australia to win the race in a World Record time of 3:58.28.

 

Former Dragons swimmer Nyree Lewis picked up Gold in the Women’s S6 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:28.99 beating her Chinese rival Fuying Jiang. Jim Anderson won Gold in the Men’s S2 50m Freestyle and fellow Scot Andrew Lindsay won Gold in the men’s S7 100m Backstroke. Danielle Watts picked up Gold in the combined S1/S2 Women’s 50m Freestyle. Kenny Cairns picked up Silver in the men’s S3 50m Freestyle, while Fran Williamson set a British Record to pick up silver in the women’s S3 50m Freestyle.

 

Claire Warne set a British record to pick up Bronze SM5 200m Individual Medley while Anthony Stephens took bronze in the S5 50m Freestyle.
