Tranmere Rovers will be without midfielder Steven O’Leary who has returned to Luton Town following the expiry of his one month loan deal.  Rovers will also be without defender Paul Linwood (knee), Captain Jason McAteer (knee) and defender Carl Tremarco (foot).  Striker Steve Davies (knee) may well be in contention again after returning to training.

                                                           

Swansea City will have Alan Tate back in contention following a one match suspension. Several of the players rested for the LDV win over Rushden and Diamonds are expected to return to the side.

Rovers go into this game on the back of a home win against League Two side Rochdale in the LDV Vans Trophy second round on Tuesday night.  Opponents Swansea also won against League Two opposition in the Southern section of the same competition, beating Rushden and Diamonds 4-0 at home.

 

Despite poor performances at home so far this season, Rovers have lost just two of their last six games at Prenton Park including a defeat to fellow strugglers Milton Keynes Dons in their last home league game.

 

Leaders Swansea have won their last three games and have won three of their last six away from home, their last being a 2-0 win at Southend United on November 12th.

The first day of this season saw Rovers travel to Swansea’s brand new Stadium.  New summer signing Adebayo Akinfenwa put Swansea in front after half an hour before a missed penalty apiece for Jason McAteer and Lee Trundle.  Despite a second half revival, Rovers could not find a way back into the game and left for home defeated.

The only other meeting prior to this season between the two sides in recent years was an Fifth Round FA Cup tie at Prenton Park in 2004.  The Swans went ahead through ex-Rover Paul Robinson before a Ryan Taylor penalty and a scorcher from Iain Hume sealed a Sixth Round place for Rovers.
