Bournemouth v Tranmere Preview
By Deadly Submarine September 9 2005
Tranmeres feast of Friday Night Football continues this week, but this time Rovers fans have to travel a to the South Coast to see the squad face Bournemouth. Total Tranmere has all the pre-match stats and team news as Rovers look to record back-to-back away victories for the first time this season.

BOURNEMOUTH  Vs TRANMERE ROVERS

Friday 2nd September 2005 – Kick Off 7.45pm

It’s Friday Night football again for Rovers this week but this time it’s an away trip.  Not only that but it’s one of the longest away trips Rovers are required to make during the course of the season.

Rovers will be looking to record their third straight League victory as well as recording back-to-back away wins for the first time this season.  There is also the possibility of a third consecutive clean sheet but Rovers have defensive selection problems as they are without three defenders from the squad.

Bournemouth currently lie just two places below Rovers in the League Table in 9th place with one point less on the board than Rovers.

Tranmere fans will be aware though that Rovers away form is not particularly strong with the win against Chesterfield last Saturday being their first since the 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday on April 2nd – a losing run that stretched over seven games.  However having put that record right at Saltergate last week, Rovers will look to continually improve on their away form.

The Cherries have only themselves won twice at home in the League since February 22nd so Rovers should fancy their chances of getting at least a point.

Last season the game between the sides at Dean Court ended in a 1-1 draw with Paul Hall putting Rovers ahead in the first half before Mills equalised for the Cherries just before half-time.  Rovers do have fond memories from Dean Court when they were 5-1 winners two seasons ago anda win there this Friday will be welcome indeed.

Team News

Bournemouth have Eddie Howe missing but Steve Fletcher and Sean Maher are expected to recover from injury in order to be available.  Loanee Steven Foley from Aston Villa has been added to the Squad.

Tranmere Rovers – Rovers are definitely without the services of Gareth Roberts (international duty), Ian Sharps (knee) and Calvin Zola (foot) but recently injured pair Mark Rankine and Jason McAteer may be in contention for places again.  Paul Linwood and Paul Brown are out on loan and will be therefore unavailable.

Tranmere will immediately add deadline day signing Delroy Facey to the squad in place of Iain Hume who departed for Leicester City on the same day.  Young midfielder Paul Henry has been given a squad number and is also expected to travel with the squad along with Ollie James.

Probable Rovers Team: Achterberg, Goodison, Jackson, Bruce, Tremarco, McAteer, Jennings, Rankine, Aiston, Facey, Greenacre.
