Steve Yates has decided that he wants to hang up his hard-working boots come the end of the season. The versatile defender played for Rovers during 1999-2002.
After only playing 3 seasons with Tranmere, Steve Yates easily put himself into the catergory of one of our best defenders, but has now decided he will end his career at the age of 35.
The versatile defender played anywhere in defence and on occasions midfield. He was hard-working and earned the rapport with the fans.
Yates had a brilliant career at Tranmere. Before making the switch he had only scored 2 goals in the 11 years of his playing career, but scored an amazing 14 goals in his three seasons. The best two being against rivals, Everton.
That was what people remember Yatesy for, his brilliant game and fantastic headers.
We wish all the luck to Yates and hope he finished his career well with his current side, Huddersfield.
The moment that changed his life.
