Fisrt goal in white shirt for Goodison

Goodison In Action
By Quayle January 16 2005
1-0. Not a classic but we'll take it. Team is reforming again after interruptions through injuries and suspensions. And two seasons ago's top scorer, Simon Haworth back on the team sheet wearing his valued number 9 shirt.
We all know of the past differences between the Tangerines and the Rovers. So I'm even more happy we luckily scrapped the win. There was a huge call for a foul on Wellens as Goodison got the ball. But he carried on and got his result- his first goal for Rovers. After the game went quiet. Hardly any shots from either side in both halves. The biggest oppurtunity again coming from the Rovers with Iain Hume's effort bring saved of the line. A huge plus from this game was Simon Haworth his first start coming back from injury and he played over 80 minutes of the game , no-one could fault the Welshman. Hopefully this can now set Tranmere ahead for the rest of the season. They sit in a comfortable second, 3 points ahead of third place Bradford City, but unfortunately a massive six points behind Luton. Blackpool: Jones, Richardson (Parker 67), Grayson, Wellens, Murphy (Blinkhorn 75), Taylor, Rob Edwards, Clare, McGregor, Clarke, Paul Edwards. Subs not used: Lee Jones, Evans, Southern. Tranmere: Achterberg, Taylor, Sharps, Jackson (Dadi 45), Goodison, Hall, Rankine, Harrison (Whitmore 81), Roberts, Hume, Haworth (McAteer 81). Subs not used: Howarth, Jennings.
