A strong Tranmere Reserve side fought out a 1-1 draw with Bury Reserves last night at Prenton Park in a fairly dull game.

The Rovers side featured just one youth team player in Dave Wilson with the rest made up of professionals from the first team squad.  The team lined up as follows....

Achterberg

Holmes Waterfall Antwi Cresswell

Shuker Ahmed Henry Barnett Wilson

Curran

The first half of the game saw very little in the way of goal chances with Craig Curran working hard for Rovers but finding himself unable to break through despite the performance in midfield of the ever impressive Adnan Ahmed.

Bury themselves made it hard work for Rovers but also failed to threaten John Achterberg's goal until the 45th minute when they took the lead with virtually their first chance of the match.

A shot from the edge of the penalty area was well saved by John Achterberg but the ball broke free from his grasp and Bury were able to take the lead just as first half injury time was coming to an end.

Half-Time - Tranmere Res 0 - 1 Bury Res

There were no changes to the Rovers side at half-time and just five minutes into the half, the home side were level when a cross from the left hand side was turned into the Bury goal by a visiting defender.

Prior to the re-start, Ryan Fraughan replaced captain Paul Henry in the centre of midfield and this made a difference as Rovers began to dominate the game a lot more.

Chances came and went for Chris Shuker, Charlie Barnett and Aaron Cresswell whilst Godwin Antwi  and Craig Curran headed wide as Rovers now looked the most likely to score.

With Fraughan and Ahmed in control in the centre it seemed as if Rovers would score again and after Jack Mackreth had replaced Dave Wilson with 15 minutes remaining, the substitute's superb cross into the area just failed to connect with a Rovers player and deserved a finish based on how good the cross was.

Full-Time - Tranmere Res 1 - 1 Bury Res

The game petered out to a 1-1 draw but there were some hard working performances within the Rovers side including Adnan Ahmed and Craig Curran as well as Luke Waterfall at the back.

Rovers next Reserve match is away to Manchester City at Hyde United's Ground on Tuesday 14th October.

Rovers Team:

Achterberg, Holmes, Waterfall, Antwi, Cresswell, Shuker, Ahmed, Henry, Barnett, Wilson, Curran.

Subs Not Used - Kennedy, Corrigan, Denson

Some good performances as I mentioned in the Report and Fraughan looked very good when he came on.

Antwi was once again inconsistent - this time at centre-back.

The game was dampened somewhat by the Kids at the back shouting Ronnie Out and F*ck Off Ronnie should add.

They were later ejected.

I also heard something interesting about Lorraine Rogers which can't be put on here but can be told away from the Board lol!

The team seemed to work hard, I have to say the midfield looked to have more fight once fraughan was introduced, also Mackreth made a big difference in the 15 minutes he was on the pitch, the cross was actually from nearer the half way line and the speed of thought was impressive, he also put Curren through with a header which was judged to be offside, all in all a good performance by all on a wet and windy night
