YOUTH - Ashcroft 1

First year scholar Jamie Ashcroft was originally a centre-back, but a injury crisis in the striking department saw the youngster switched upfront midway through last season for the U-16 side, and he was an instant success, netting fifteen times in twelve games.

Very good with his back to goal, Ashcroft is strong in the air, winning a number of headers that prove to be vital flick-ons and knock downs.

As well as this, the youngster is strong, capable of shrugging off tackles from incoming defenders, whilst he has decent pace when running both with and without the ball.  To be expected as well, the striker weighs in with his fair share of goals and is very good at netting from inside the penalty area.

At 16, Ashcroft was only one of six youngsters taken on by Tranmere Rovers as first year scholars for the 2008/09 season.

Due to formally being a centre-back, if necessary, Ashcroft could slot into defence.
