Peterborough v Tranmere Rovers Match Thread
By Deadly Submarine September 20 2008
As Rovers take on Peterborough United this afternoon at London Road, readers who have been unable to travel to the game can use this thread on our Message Forum to discuss the Rovers game as it progresses, as well as other results in League One and around the rest of the country.
Peterborough United Match Discussion Thread

At Total Tranmere, we always like to take note of feedback from the users of the site and respond to it in the best way we can.  One thing we have picked up on more recently is that after Tranmere games there seem to be a lot of different threads that get started about the same game.

As a result of this feedback, from now on we will be introducing Match Threads for every occasion when Tranmere play.

Tranmere are of course at away to Peterborough United today but if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.  Or why not post the line-ups or anything else you can think of.

Why not also use this facility to discuss other games and scores that kick-off at 3.00pm which may or may not have an effect on Tranmere too.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

First of all thanks to Mike,Matt and Mike for a very enjoyable day even though we had trouble finding which way to go.

I really believe today was a brilliant performance was Tranmere. Despite being 2-0 up and drawing 2-2 the commitment from the players was second to none. Despite in the early moments the Rovers players looked fairy jaded.

340 Rovers fans sang their heart and from start to finish and it was a brilliant atmosphere.

Bas Savage was not his usual self but we still scored 2 goals. Chris Greenacre played an excellent role upfront and held the ball up well while taking his 2 goals really well, first one guiding and Andy Taylor cross into the back of the net and second sheer persistance as he nicked the ball from infront of the keeper and rolled it into the empty net.

The midfielders all had a good game. Jenno and Kay both played well. The two wingers(Moore and Sonko) both played some football with flair and if Sonko could shoot he would have had a few goals to his name.

The defence was excellent aswell. Both full backs had influential roles in the goals With Taylor getting the assist. Shotton had a header which just went wide after a perfectly timed run. Chors and Goodison were both rocks at the back and not much got through them except a few dives from there wingers which was very much to the frusration of the rovers fans.

Danny Coyne made some crucial interventions for example with 5 mnutes to go there was a 1 on 1 oppertunity and he spread himself and saved with his legs.

A truly brilliant day just a shame we couldn't hand on but i would of settled for a draw at the start of the day!

I dont know which Jennings and Shotton you were watching but both of them were awful! Jennings didn't break up there attacks at all and Shotton gave their wingers the freedom of the left wing - he didn't close them down at all - that's how they scored the first. The midfield were second to almost every ball in the air and Greenacre could and should have scored 5 - a decent striker would have! A good result though but disappointing after been 2-0, I don't know why Ronnie Moore didn't do anything to counter Boyd when he moved into a central role - he seemed completely oblivious to it.

The back four were great yet again I have to say with Chorley and Goodison working well together.

In a way I can see why Shotton was criticised above in the sense that he still makes mistakes BUT he is learning and he always seem to come out well from them by covering himself!

I thought Savage had a poor game and looked tired at the end but hopefully he can return to form on Friday and I still wouldn't change that team if it can be helped.

As James said, a great day out and was great fun!

Goodison. What a performance. They really couldn't get past him, whilst his cross for the first goal was superb.

We had chances to score more than three, Shotton missed some headers, Greenacre should have buried one in the second half and Sonko's shooting as ever left a lot to be desired, but they had bags of chances too. A draw, on reflected, was the fair result, and I would have taken that before kick off.

Thought they got confidence after their first and passed it around very well. This played into their strengths and against ours. Shotton and Goodison had been winning everything in the air, but with the ball passed around quickly on the floor, Sonko was shitting out of tackles and Shotton was often left exposed, making a couple of mistakes.

Saying that though, it was again a failure to defend a set-piece that cost us.

i thought first half we where brillaint and they only gave us problems when boyd wasnt closed down and he got alot of crosses in.

jenno aand kay didnt win enough in midfield to stop their attacks and we really should have scored about 5/6 if greenacre new wher the goal was.

they where awful at the back and we didnt attack with enough conviction.

sonko needs to learn how to shoot because he will do a brillaint bit of work to get him into a decent postion and then commpltely miss.

goodison was once again an absoloute rock and chorley didnt do to bad either. Taylor was solid again but shotton was ran ragged by their winger and needed to do better.

overall we where good and should of won.

I said at the beginning of the season that Greenacre needs to improve, yes he scores goals, but how many does he miss that he should score? We need a striker that is going to score goals instinctively,he scores because he works hard, not because he has skill, that said, let's hope he can get 20 this season, but we need to try other options,& no-one should be tired at this stage of the season!!!

Maybe we should look at this a bit deeper, week after week the defense is getting a lot of praise, but on the other hand we seem to find it impossible to keep a clean sheet.
So what is it, the defenders do OK individually but not collectively or are they left exposed by the midfield to often.
Whichever way you look at it we need to stop conceeding and find a few clean sheets if we are to mount any challenge for the top six places

I think, more often than not lately, the problem has been the goalkeeper. Coyne should have kept the goals vs. Hudds and Oldham out and I would say he should have saved Peterborough's second on Saturday too. That's three goals in three games that could and probably should have been avoided.

i feel that we have one of the best defences in the league and one of the best keepers. Its weird that a team with such a good defence conceades so many goals.

however if we could score more up the other end thenit wouldnt matter. Savage makes a real nuisance of himself and scares the defence with his quick feet and pace, however there is not another striker who can convert the chances that he creates for the team.

Gornell ?

Curran can finish and the games I've seen they've worked together brilliantly, but the wingers just weren't good enough in those games.
