By Barrie Nelson September 2 2008
For the second time this week, Rovers have a home game this evening and Barrie Nelson now takes a look ahead to tonight's match between Rovers and Accrington Stanley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy First Round. Rovers' record in this competition since their relegation in 2001 has not been ideal.

Tranmere R v Accrington S

Johnstone's Paint Trophy First Round at Prenton Park

Tonight sees the return of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as Tranmere face Accrington Stanley as they look to win in the First Round of this competition for the first time since beating Lincoln in the 2005-2006 season.

Tranmere go into the game on a high after thrashing Northampton 4-1 last Saturday where as Accrington visit Prenton Park on a downer after being beaten 1-0 at Gillingham.  However, both teams have only won two of their opening five matches.

Goodison

Goodison is Absent on International Duty

Tranmere will be without former skipper Ian Goodison tonight as he is away on international duty with Jamaica, also Gareth Edds will face a late fitness test on a groin injury he aggravated against Northampton.

This means that on-loan defender Ryan Shotton could be in line to make his debut tonight in the absence of either of Ian Goodison or Gareth Edds.

Accrington will be without striker Robert Grant as he is currently nursing a knee injury.

Stanley are also likely to field a familiar face tonight in John Mullin, the ex-Rovers midfielder was released in the summer after a two year stint at the club.

PLAYER - Edds

Gareth Edds (left) May Miss out Through Injury

Tonight will be a strange game as visiting supporters are housed in the Johnny King Stand and home supporters will look to fill out the Main Stand, the Paddocks and the first few rows of the Kop.

Admission is based on special offers at £7.00 for adults and £3.00 for concessions but also an adult purchasing a ticket prior to the game is entitled to one free junior accompanying them.

Remember kick off is at an earlier time of 7.00PM!!!

So don't be late and I hope to see many of you there!
