Rovers 4 - 1 N/Hampton
Weather Report
A warm and dry day which at times saw the players having to take on water when there was a stoppage in play.
Crowd
5,034 was a fairly low attendance figure given the special discount offers that were running in conjunction with next Saturday's home game against Oldham Athletic but those that did turn up were well rewarded.
Referee Watch - Mark Haywood
A cardless game for Mr Haywood and overall a decent game for him although the same may not perhaps be said for his assistant on the Main Stand side who at times seemed indecisive and came in for some abuse during the second half - 9/10
Best Moment
Savage's goal was well taken and put us back into the game but the ten minute first half spell of goals would have to go down collectively as the best moment of the game.
Worst Moment
Going 1-0 down early on and playing so poorly in the opening 20 minutes of the game was a major down point - at least until the goals started going in.
Tranmere Man of the Match
Bas Savage - Everyone in the side played their part but the competition for Man of the Match for this game was as one-sided as it gets. Savage was an immense presence upfront and took his goal very well too earning deserved praise from his Manager.
Connections
There were no player connections between the two sides today.
Northampton Fans
A fair amount of supporters made the trip north to the game but seemed quiet for the majority of the game even when ahead in the first half.
Summary
After a sluggish start and going behind early on, Rovers found their gear and never looked back to earn a deserved win. A decent spell from the visitors early in the second half put a little pressure back on but the result never really seemed in doubt.
Entertainment Value
Based on the first twenty minutes or so the entertainment value was poor but as a fan you can never complain when your side scores four goals and looked like they could have scored more. 9/10
