After Tranmere fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Leicester City earlier today. Ronnie Moore was critical of his side's defending, particularly from set-pieces.
Moore told Tranmere World....
"We said at half time that we were giving away too many free kicks around their area, and then bang after half time we give another one away and the lad gets a free header and scores."
"I think it's been a good performance. We have to learn how to defend set plays, but in open play there's nothing between the sides. We bossed it for half an hour before they got the goal."
"Kaysy's had a good chance, Sonko's had a good chance. We threw everything at them and then to get caught at the end was disappointing."
"I can't fault anyone for their effort, but that's not an extra, they're professional footballers and they should run about. It's just being clinical and doing the set plays that we'd worked on."
"We didn't have the quality of ball in. If we'd had their lad taking our set pieces I'm sure we'd have scored a few goals. To be done by two set plays is not good because we've got the height and strength to deal with them."
Speaking of the complaints by the Tranmere players following Leicester's first goal, Moore added......
"They're saying the referee said 'wait for the whistle, but their lad took it, he allowed it and they've scored from it. The referee denied that when I spoke to him, but it's still naive whether he has said it or he hasn't."
