Holyhead 1 - 1 Tranmere
Attendance - 400 (Approx)
In front of a good crowd of about 400 people, Shaun Garnett started with what was his strongest youth side that included a trialist.
From the outset, Tranmere went out to play a passing game, however this was hampered by the grass surface being far too long. In fact Holyhead could have gone ahead early on went a back pass was held up, but Kennedy put in a terrific save.
Despite the surface Taylor and Fraughan began to control the midfield with Wilson always looking dangerous wide right. Tranmere had a clear penalty turned down when Macauley was pulled down right before the ref.
As the half progressed Tranmere began to dominate, with the Holyhead keeper pulling off a number of decent saves.
Tranmere went ahead after a superbly driven low cross into the box by Corrigan from the left wing, the cross was turned into the Holyhead net by a Holyhead defender.
At half time, Garnett made a number of changes with Kennedy, Denson, Jones, Fraughan, Taylor, Wilson and Macauley being replaced by first year scholars, and other trialists which included Joe Collister, Tom Baker, Ross Rule, Jack Mackreth, Alex Pursehouse.
Although this weakened the side, the youngsters gave a good account of themselves, but sadly Holyhead scored from a corner to equalise, and also were unlucky not to have scored another after hitting the post with a freekick.
Tranmere Team: Peter Kennedy, Luke Denson, Joel Richardson, Gerwyn Jones (Capt), Irish Trialist*, Dave Wilson, Ash Taylor, Ryan Fraughan, Louis Corrigan, Josh Macauley, Jamie Ashcroft.
*Trialist's Name to be Be Confirmed
