Savage Signs for Rovers According to Reports

Latest Signing?
By Deadly Submarine July 9 2008
As the transfer activity begins to slowly heat up at Prenton Park, reports tonight suggest that Millwall striker Bas Savage has signed for Tranmere although the news is unlikely to be made official until at least tomorrow but hopefully in time for the home friendly against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Savage Signs for Rovers According to Reports

Following today's news that Edrissa Sonko has signed for the Club, there are reports tonight that Millwall striker Bas Savage will be the next player to commit to playing at Prenton Park with a deal already believed to have been signed although this is yet to be confirmed officially.

Bas Savage Seems Rovers Bound!

Reports suggest that Savage who is 26, will be announced as a Rovers player soon, after being told by Millwall that he was free to speak to the Tranmere about their interest in him after Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore made a bid last weekend.

Speaking to the South London Press Savage said....

"If Kenny (Jackett - Millwall Manager) is happy for me to talk to Tranmere, it is a sign I am not going to be first choice next season."

"I have the option of another six months with Millwall but I don't want to end up with no club in January, and be out of the game for a couple of months, which is what happened last year."

"We'll see what happens. If it does come to it, I will be very sorry to leave Millwall because Kenny helped me a lot and I really enjoyed my time there."

Savage boasts a number of previous Clubs already at the age of just 26 with Brighton and Gillingham his two most recent employers before Millwall.

He has had six Clubs in the last four years but always seems to perform well when playing against Tranmere so Rovers fans will be hoping he does well in a Rovers shirt too.

Elsewhere, the signing of George O'Callaghan from Cork City, the story that Total Tranmere exclusively reported before anyone else recently, seems to be taking another step closer to reality with the former Port Vale player believed to also be in talks this week with a view to a deal at Prenton Park so watch this space as we will bring you news on this as we get it.

Still think we need another right sided defender, a CM to replace McLaren - it'll be hard but Cohen would be good! And finally, someone who can play LW/Upfront - after that we'd be OK!

This isn't me being pessimistic or having a go, but Savage is bloomin awful, no doubt about it. My mate is laughin is head off at this signing, Brighton fan by the way. He has scored 13 goals in 109 games, and please don't tell me we are paying a fee for him?

For what it's worth he sounds like a similar player to Zola so to get £200,000 for him and then get a similar player in for less in return that can't be bad I'd say!

I'm bemused by his signing to say the least. His goals to games ratio is pants. But Ronnie seems to like the big striker who can boss defenders about. I'll give him a chance before judging him. As long as he's willing to give a 100% week in week out then he'll be ok by me. Chris Greenacre might even break that 20 goal mark playing alongside him (unless dad plays son instead)! Anyway, I'm just looking forward to seeing the moonwalk celebration at Prenton Park next season! That plus a bit more promotion on Soccer AM as a result!

You want to read the Millwall messageboard, they cannot believe we paid for him, and are suggesting our scouts must be realted to Stevie Wonder which I actually found quite funny. I do believe Zola is a better player and I always actually rated him, but with his injury record it was right to sell. The fact is savage aint the answer, doesen't matter which way you look at it. There is going to be huge pressure on Greenacre to get goals next season, and I am worried by Ronnie's judgement suggesting Savage could be our no 1 striker. But it isn't official yet so I can only hope.

Im just going by what most fans have said from the previous clubs he has played for, and the general feeling is he is useless, and I don't see why that will change when he pulls on the white jersey. Of course I'm not going to have a go at him before he has even kicked a ball, all im saying is in my opinion its a very bad and almost concerning signing.

By saying hes 'not the one for us' is pretty much having a go at him.

Just because he wasn't good their doesn't mean he won't be here - it all depends on the style of play etc.!

It does sound concerning listening to Millwall fans but Brighton fans seemed to quite like him.

Sonko hasn't had great reviews from Walsall fans but a lot of our fans seem to think he's a decent signing.

All a matter of opinion I guess really.

I suppose if you looked at Greenys goals per games for Stoke you wouldn't have ben too impressed, but look at him now!
