Rovers v Liverpool Friendly Live on TV
By Deadly Submarine June 25 2008
Tranmere’s home friendly match against Liverpool will be screened live on Setanta Sports it has been confirmed today. The game on Saturday 12th July will be the first of a number of friendly matches that will be screened live by Setanta during pre-season.

Rovers v Liverpool Friendly Live on TV!!

There was some more good news today for Tranmere in relation to their home pre-season friendly match against Liverpool on Saturday 12th July after Setanta Sports confirmed they will be screening the game live to the nation.

There has already been something of a buzz amongst Rovers fans since it was announced last Friday that Liverpool would be visiting Prenton Park for a friendly match for the first time since 1993, but news that the game will also be televised will be an even bigger boost both financially and in terms of media coverage of Rovers.

There will of course be some debate over whether the live screening of the game will affect the overall attendance as perhaps Liverpool fans, especially the thousands who live in London, do their usual thing and watch the game on TV instead of physically going to the game.

Stadium Tranmere

Prenton Park Comes to the TV Screens of the Country Once More!

The bonus of that will be that Tranmere will get a share of some TV revenue and there may also be less Liverpool fans trying to sit in the home ends and annoy the Rovers fans no end just as they did when the two sides met at Prenton Park in the FA Cup fifth round in 2001.

Further ticket details on this game are due to be released soon so check back to Total Tranmere for news on this.

In the meantime, why not discuss the televising of this game by using our Message Forum?

We will get money for the game being on though I suppose which might be more than what we would lose from people staying away?

Difficult one really?

I think it is so important to get the ball down and entertain in this game don't try to defend for a result but entertain the (let's be honest) millions and millions who will be watching.

Absolutely Mikey and that can only be good for the Club without doubt.

Rovers fans, unless living miles away, will still go the game to support the Club financially and Liverpool will only be allowed a certain amount of fans anyway I would guess so I just don't think it will have all that much of an effect this time with it only being a friendly.

Plus if we get thrashed and play@#$%&they won't come back anyway haha!tongue sticking out smiley

The other point I thought of when I heard this news is whether there is really any interest in pre-season games to the extent that people will watch them on TV?

I (Sm128)agree with MARK-TRFC,some people will watch it on tv,but for a lot of plastic supporters(especially the red s&*%6)it will be a chance to see Liverpool in the flesh.I will be going, but i've got Setanta & my V+ box came today ,so i will be able to tape it & copy it to DVD

Well I think these people who are subject to them in their lives know where they are from. It is quite possbile that MOST are from Liverpool but there are still a hell of alot from outside who have no reason or evidence for supportig them except for last season's shirt which they picked up for a 10er.

u said people who go to the game are more likely to come back, but surely, the television reaches a wide range of pottential fans, and if they like what they see, they may be tempted to start coming down!

Re: Rovers v Liverpool Friendly Live on TV

Yeah that's a possibility Ad but being their in the flesh would surely make more people likely to come back?

As for the Liverpool Fans, we were travelling home from a Tranmere away game last season and met a service station FULL of Liverpool fans travelling back south from a HOME game - that's a fact,

The comment in the story was designed to provoke and it clearly worked!

ye i agree with the 'being their in the flesh' thing, but it would reach a wider audience of pottential fans on TV! there wont be too many people watching i rekon, but there will probably be about ten times what you can fit into prenton park; with a lot of them being curios people from the area!

About a third of Liverpool fans are probably from Liverpool, the rest are from Wirral, other areas of England and Europe and some on Asia.

whats the problem with liverpool having fans from outside liverpool then? its a completely different situation to united, who ONLY have fans from outside manchester. and y do u think i was targeting u?

i also dont see why fans are deemed as 'plastic' for supporting a premier league team.

I never at all said there was a problem with it.

I just stated where most Liverpool fans are based.

Fans are usually deemed as 'plastic' if they claim to support a team but know nothing about them, like most Wirral based Liverpool fans.

Liverpool fan sitting in the tranmere end (jonny king stand). How do you think your fans will react to liverpool fans sitting in their end. The story mentioned the 2001 fa cup tie. Wasn't there myself, was there trouble or was it just banter?

i definately know there was trouble in the kop in the 2001 match. As friends of my family who are livepool fans and sat in the kop first got bottled and then some of our fans tried toget to them, which resulted in them and a few other liverpool fans being moved into theottom of he main stand. Personally if the plastics do start bragging in our end i hope they do get kicked in grinning smiley

I'm sure there won't too much trouble but it might get heated if (when) Liverpool score when all the Reds in the Tranmere end celebrate.

Should be OK though on the whole.

To be honest, can you see them celebrating that much? It's a friendly, and to them it's sooooo meaningless (like it is to some of our fans). Do we jump up and celebrate at a friendly? Not really, you just applaud

...excellent news that it is going to be on the telly..

i wasn't planning on coming to the game, as it is a fair old distnace to come for what will be a training ground match...

but, and here is the best thing...the better half is going to the hairdressers on Saturday...so by the time she gets it cut , coloured, dried and stuff, I can happily watch the match at home whilst pretending to do the hovering, dusting, ironing and stuff...

result...

other good thing is that it all helps lift Tranmere profile as seen in the Masters, etc, to the wider public audiance..

Cant wait myself as its the first day back, little bevy, good atmosphere, see some youngsters in action and hopefully good weather. Is green lane or rock ferry the best station to get off at?

On another note, why are we refered to as the plastics, never heard that one before!
