As rumours of a possible take-over at Prenton Park by a Portuguese group of investors continue to circulate and certainly refuse to go away, there is some confusion amongst Rovers fans with regard to the potential deal which was revealed here on Total Tranmere last week.

Reports in the local media this week suggest that the future of Rovers Manager Ronnie Moore and his out of contract players may be put on hold until a take-over deal with the group, under the name of Best Holdings, is either finalised or ruled out totally.

If this proves to be the case it would be a major setback for the Club, possibly putting them several weeks behind other League One Clubs in the all important planning stages for next season.

The question must also be raised as to whether the new investors (should this deal happen), would want to bring in their own management and coaching team and if history is anything to go by, they may even want to bring in their own players too.

Earlier this season, the group that are now apparently interested in Rovers launched what turned out to be a failed bid for our League One rivals Swindon Town.  In the build up to the proposed deal though, the group led by Portuguese businessman Jeorge Rubinstein - widely thought of as a football agent, signed players to add to Swindon's squad but this also proved a disaster.

Could Prenton Park soon go Portugese?

Mauro Almeida, Franklin Anzite and Ibon Arrieta were all signed on apparently high wages and long contracts but none were judged by the then Swindon Manager Paul Sturrock to be good enough for the first team.

All three players were released shortly after the Best Holdings takeover of Swindon broke down in November but the stories that stem from the Wiltshire Club should serve as a warning to Rovers fans that a takeover will not necessarily be a good thing in the long term.

What the intentions of the Group would be in terms of the investment also remain unclear and a take-over would not necessarily mean pots of money.

Would Best Holdings strip the assets of the Club or would they just maybe improve the overall financial situation? 

Yes, as things stand Rovers have debts and are making a loss, but they have a family feel to the Club, something which Lorraine Rogers and the current Board take great pride in and something that it would be a great shame to lose. 

There is no reason to be against a future take-over of the Club by any means but this particular take-over bid seems riddled with potential complications and on the whole does not seem like the right way forward for Tranmere Rovers.

As fans, we need to trust that Lorraine Rogers and the Board will take all factors on board before making a decision on whether this take-over is right.  If they decide it is the right thing for the Club then they will have their reasons for thinking that.

Whatever the outcome, we hope the Club comes out stronger on the other side but caution should certainly be the word that is taken up as we step into the unknown.
